ethical practice

example 1: ethical leadership statement

Description
I wrote a paper to explore who I am as an ethical instructional technology leader for a class in professional ethics in instructional technology (IT 595).

Rationale
In writing this paper, I outline how I am committed to designing, developing, and supporting learning environments that are safe, ethical, and accessible for learners. I also discuss my beliefs and how I put them into daily practice. In addition, I demonstrate how I balance my beliefs and my commitment to continuing to be an ethical instructional technology leader in my future endeavors.

Alignment to Career Goals and Professional Standards
  • ISTE Standard 1: Visionary Leadership
  • ISTE Standard 5: Digital Citizenship
Creating an inclusive learning environment for learners is imperative, which is why I must strive to “model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers” (ISTE, 2011, standard 5.a).

example 2: accessible media development reflection

Description
Also for IT 595, I wrote a reflection paper that described an accessible instructional media I developed, the tool I used for its development, and the accessible features I included.

Rationale
In the process of making my media accessible, I experienced quite a few design dilemmas, which I discussed as well as how they might influence my future practices as an ethical leader.

Alignment to Career Goals and Professional Standards
  • ISTE Standard 1: Visionary Leadership
  • ISTE Standard 5: Digital Citizenship
By experiencing firsthand the challenges in creating accessible media, I hope to “contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students” - the key being all learners (ISTE, 2011, standard 1.a).
